GUEST POST – A Lockdown Poem by Maria Bernascone

I sit by the window, and dully look out;
The streets are all empty, nobody about.
The virus may spread, the outlook is bleak –
The country is in lockdown for more than a week.

I wake from my reverie at the sound of a voice –
We are all indoors, staying inside by choice.
So it isn’t my neighbour from Number Three
But a little visitor from a nearby tree.

An inquisitive eye looks this way and that –
And warily peeps at the resident cat.
A tentative ‘Caw’, he flies down to see
If he can coax a biscuit from me.

He eats what I bring him, then asks for more;
And calls his best friend, an injured crow.
They eat their fill, then fly away –
Leaving a gift- a feather so grey.
