Something I noticed. The status driven mindset in an organisation. The boss messages on the office WA group, be it a good one or bad, the employees immediately start sending their customary messages of complimentary gestures.
Now, the msg itself may be excellent, but the point being, how many of them are actually appreciating the msg and complimenting it?
Well, I think very few if at all. Now, this is nothing against the boss or the employees. It is about the mindset. The mindset that has been ingrained to us since birth. With this mindset, our basic instict is like “boss is always right”. And, this probably is one of the biggest reasons as to why many organisations fail to have a long successful journey. The feedback from the ground level gets cut off this way. And, once that is cut off, the company slowly perishes as a communication gap occurs between management and ground reality. To be honest, our organisation would’ve folded a decade back if not for govt. assistance. I see, govt. getting blamed from everywhere. Be it the current one or the previous ones. The common noise being govt. sold profitable businesses to private entities. Corruption was/is rampant. While that maybe true, there are several reasons as to why that happened. In a democratic country, development cannot happen without the private entities being encouraged. That is the natural evolution of a thriving democracy. Corruption is a natural occurence of it. Nonetheless, this is a topic for another day.
Coming back to my original point. Is the govt. to blame all the time? Absolutely not IMO. We must look at ourselves in the mirror and ask, have I given everything to the organisation? Have I never hidden behind someone to bypass responsibility? We’ll certainly get the answer. Am I really caring about the boss as a human being and giving him/her honest feedback or am I just blindly agreeing to everything he/she says, does? Honest feedback CAN BE GIVEN in an amicable manner. And, the boss requires it as even he/she is a human first and boss later, a work in progress like all of us. Honest feedback will help the boss grow and in respect grow the organisation. He/she takes it or not is not for us to ponder upon. Ultimately we elevate for the organisation to get elevated.
With a status driven mindset, we only think about the stature or the hierarchy system which is basically nothing more than a structured way of functioning. It’s a law of nature which we start believing to be the end all be all. A collective focus only on that structure and not the people involved in that structure eventually devalues the quality of manpower for which that structure was originally created.
Once, the quality of manpower devalues, the organisation falls. Everyone suffers. So it is upto us to decide what we can do to enhance ourselves and others around us. WE CAN ALL DO OUR SMALL PART.
